Internationalization and Trade in Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges from Nepalese Perspective

Abstract

This paper provides general overview and an analytical framework to study internationalization of higher education in Nepal in the context of increased emphasis on private sector involvement and the existence of General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The major forms of internationalization of higher education, cross border higher education in particular and existence of GATS are assessed. A detail analysis of student mobility and program mobility are assessed from Nepalese perspective. Finally, key issues are identified for consideration by education leaders and stakeholders.
